AI girlfriend Canada: costs and account rules

Canadian AI companion account terms: CAD store prices, GST/HST, billing channels, privacy, and how current law differs from proposals.

18+ only; fictional adult companions. When comparing AI girlfriend services in Canada, treat a Canadian storefront entry, a working account and an accepted payment as three different kinds of evidence. Nomi's Canadian iOS listing includes a CA$129.99 annual purchase, and Replika's Canadian listing includes several subscriptions with different labels. A local listing shows a distribution channel and the public purchase items. It does not tell you how every registration or checkout will turn out.

The browser is another channel. OurDream's official FAQ describes a web service that can be installed to the home screen, not a native app. Candy.ai's public creator also offers a home-screen installation route. A shortcut opens the same web account and does not create an Apple subscription. In the other direction, Apple can keep managing an iOS purchase even if the user later opens the service in a browser.

Read payment evidence for what it actually covers. OurDream's help says plainly that PayPal is not accepted. Replika documents how to cancel an existing PayPal subscription. That helps someone who already pays that way, but it does not prove that every new Canadian checkout offers the same method. A payment icon or a general country label cannot show that Interac is accepted. Check the method shown in the actual purchase flow before relying on it.

The bank statement description is a separate piece of the transaction. Candy.ai documents EverAI as a billing descriptor. Keep it with the receipt, amount and renewal date, because a statement name alone does not show which plan or period was bought. If an unfamiliar charge appears, find the original billing channel before you try to delete the account.

Keep currency, term and tax on the same record

Nomi's Canadian iOS listing gives CA$49.99 for a quarter and CA$129.99 for a year. These are amounts for the full term. Its CA$19.99 Standard item has no printed billing interval, so it should not be presented as a confirmed monthly debit. The same listing has a 100-credit purchase at CA$12.99. A credit pack is not another name for the subscription: buying credits requires paid access and adds a separate balance.

Replika shows why the item name has to stay attached to the price. The Canadian store lists monthly entries at CA$10.49 and CA$18.99, annual entries including CA$62.99, CA$66.99 and CA$99.99, and an Annual ULTRA item at CA$114.99. A Platinum item appears at CA$123.99 with no printed duration. Readers should not assume they qualify for the cheapest item on this list. The purchase screen shows the actual tier, offer and renewal arrangement.

OurDream's public Standard subscription costs US$19.99 per month and includes 1,000 Dreamcoins. The annual purchase is US$119.88, shown as a monthly equivalent of US$9.99. When reporting the public plan, leave these amounts in US dollars. A Canadian payment may be converted by the card or payment provider, and the final debit in Canadian dollars can depend on the rate and fees that apply. An invented conversion is a poor substitute for the receipt.

Candy.ai's subscription display uses a dollar symbol for a first-month amount of $9.99 and a renewal amount of $13.99, without naming an ISO currency. A dollar sign is not enough to show CAD. The display also shows why the first payment and later renewals need to be looked at separately. An introductory amount does not set the recurring amount, and a monthly equivalent on an annual plan does not mean monthly billing.

For applicable cross-border digital supplies, CRA explains that GST/HST depends on the recipient's province and must be shown separately or identified as included. The federal GST rate is 5%. HST is 13% in Ontario, 14% in Nova Scotia, and 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. This describes the tax framework; it does not prove how any particular app checkout treats tax. The list also does not cover every separate provincial levy.

Do not add a percentage again to a price that already includes tax. Do not call an advertised amount "tax included" just because it is in Canadian dollars, either. The useful record is the selected item, billing term, currency, tax line or inclusion statement, total and next renewal date. Put consumable purchases on their own lines. Then a later bank debit can be matched to the product actually bought.

A useful budget separates recurring costs from optional usage. Nomi's 100-credit pack at CA$12.99 falls in the second group. OurDream's standard paid text mode uses zero Dreamcoins, while its Genius mode uses one per response. That is why "unlimited chat" and "no further spending" are different claims. The companion account comparison lists subscription terms next to the relevant allowances.

Switching devices can complicate a billing question without changing the original agreement. A Nomi subscription bought through the Canadian store is still a store purchase if the subscriber later reads conversations on the web. The CA$49.99 quarterly entry describes that channel and period only. Find the original confirmation before comparing it with a web promotion, since the same account name does not mean the same prices, renewal dates or cancellation controls.

A remaining allowance is a separate record too. OurDream's Standard plan includes 1,000 Dreamcoins each month, and the annual plan adds an extra allocation in the first month. Looking only at the opening balance can overstate what later months will bring. Track the recurring grant, any introductory bonus and any separately purchased balance apart from one another. When the first renewal arrives, compare the ongoing entitlement with the ongoing payment instead of counting the introductory benefit in every future month.

Canada's age-verification debate includes Bill S-209 in the 45th Parliament. The parliamentary record, checked on 29 October 2026, places it at second reading in the House of Commons, with a recent debate listed on 24 September 2026. That is not Royal Assent, and it does not create a working universal verification requirement. A bill number in a headline does not prove that every companion account already has to use the same identity check.

Bill C-34 is a separate proposal. The Justice Department's Charter statement, tabled on 19 October 2026, describes obligations under a proposed Digital Safety Act, including a preliminary-removal regime. Without the relevant enactment and commencement, a proposal should not be advertised as a 24-hour remedy that is already available. Proposed legislation also does not replace the platform's own reporting route or the legal obligations in force now.

A site's 18+ notice states who the audience is. Collecting a date of birth, checking an identity document, estimating age and authenticating a previously verified account are all different things. A store age rating is yet another. The age-verification guide explains these differences and does not treat a checkbox as proof of an effective identity check.

The generative-AI principles from Canadian privacy authorities encourage limiting personal information and recognise that publicly accessible personal data can still be protected. A conversation with a fictional character can include real personal details the user types in. Giving the character an invented name does not anonymise a message that contains an address, employer, health history or other identifying information. What matters is which information goes into the service and how the operator says it will handle it.

Nomi states explicitly that chats are not end-to-end encrypted. OurDream's policy, dated 26 August 2026, describes processing for AI and machine-learning purposes. These are concrete differences in product policy. Encryption in transit, private character visibility and end-to-end encryption are different protections, and a comparison should not swap one term for another. The privacy and deletion guide separates account controls from wider data handling.

Cancelling is also a different action from a legal privacy request. OurDream says account deletion automatically cancels an active subscription and normally takes 24 to 48 hours. Nomi describes a deletion process of about 28 days, subject to exceptions. A processing period does not mean every billing record or legally retained record disappears at once. Keep correspondence and the transaction record when you ask about payments or stored data.

Match a documented account term to the question you need answered

If you want a spending reference in Canadian dollars, Nomi's CA$129.99 annual and CA$49.99 quarterly iOS entries are useful because each names a period. Compare them with the exact purchase screen anyway, especially if you use web billing. Local currency on its own does not tell you which service has the best conversations or the lowest total cost once optional purchases are counted.

If you care about a recurring free-text allowance, the gap between Nomi's 50 messages per day and Candy.ai's five introductory messages in total says more than the word "free." Secrets.ai draws a different line: 20 ordinary messages per day, plus a ceiling of 100 messages in total for free custom-character chat. Someone who wants an occasional ongoing conversation should look at the reset period. Someone just trying out a new interface may be looking at a much smaller initial sample.

With an existing subscription, the priority is control over future charges and stored material. OurDream's documented deletion route also cancels billing, while Candy.ai documents a separate Unsubscribe control. Replika gives cancellation instructions for its original payment channels, including existing PayPal subscriptions. These are differences in account management. They do not rank how safe or trustworthy any transaction will be.

For an adult fictional conversation that touches on personal topics, start with the actual privacy terms. Nomi's explicit statement that chats are not end-to-end encrypted matters even if you like its illustrated character. An account with attractive pricing can still be a poor fit for information you do not want an online service to process. Leave sensitive identifying details out of the fictional scenario, and do not treat a character's reassuring words as a privacy guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Canadian App Store listing prove the service works for every Canadian account?

It proves there is a public storefront listing. It says nothing about every registration, identity check or payment outcome. Nomi's CA$129.99 annual item is one specific Canadian store reference. Web access and whether a particular issuer accepts a payment are separate matters.

Can I compare a yearly price with a monthly subscription?

Yes, as long as the commitment stays clear. OurDream shows its US$119.88 annual purchase as US$9.99 per month for comparison, while the monthly subscription is US$19.99. The equivalent figure does not turn the upfront annual payment into monthly billing.

Is CA$19.99 a verified monthly Nomi price?

The Canadian Standard store entry at CA$19.99 does not print a period. The quarterly CA$49.99 and annual CA$129.99 items do. Use the period shown for the purchase you select, and do not attach a monthly label to an entry that has none.

Are GST and HST already included?

Only the confirmation for the specific purchase can tell you. CRA requires tax on applicable supplies to be shown separately or identified as included. Ontario's 13% HST is a tax rate, not evidence that a particular advertised subscription includes it. Do not add it a second time to a gross amount.

Does every service accept PayPal or Interac?

No general list settles that for each checkout. OurDream's official help says it does not accept PayPal. Replika documents how to manage existing PayPal subscriptions. Whether the subscription is US$19.99 or any other amount, check it against the payment methods the purchase actually offers.

Is Canada's proposed age-verification bill already the same as a universal login rule?

No. The parliamentary record for Bill S-209, checked on 29 October 2026, places it at second reading in the House of Commons. A provider can set its own adult-only rules, but those are not the same as a bill that has received Royal Assent.

Will deleting an account automatically stop the next payment?

It depends on the service. OurDream says explicitly that its account-deletion process cancels the active subscription and takes 24 to 48 hours. Candy.ai has a separate unsubscribe route. Check the documented consequence for your account and the original purchase channel.

Is an app a treatment for loneliness?

A message quota or a subscription is not clinical evidence. Nomi's 50 daily messages describe access to a feature, not a health outcome. Treat fictional conversation as an optional activity, and keep up human relationships and appropriate professional support when needed.
