18+ only. This comparison covers fictional adult characters and ordinary conversation.

Updated October 29, 2026; plan details checked October 28. Nomi publishes 50 free messages per day; Candy publishes 5 free chat messages in total. Character.AI has announced a court-supervised sale process, so whether the service continues is a separate question to weigh before you pay.

Choose the conversation format before the subscription

An AI girlfriend app bundles three things: a character interface, a message allowance and a set of account rules. Nomi offers 50 free messages a day and structured background notes. Replika gives you a continuing avatar with paid voice tiers. Candy's introduction is much shorter, at 5 messages. With Secrets and Kupid, activity quotas matter most, while GirlfriendGPT uses monthly message budgets. Character.AI is generous with free messaging but has announced a business restructuring.

Start with the feature you would actually use regularly: written conversation, voice, an editable character background or a stable avatar. Then compare the total charge for that specific plan and how you can leave it. The cards below describe different fits, not one overall winner. They cover software companions only, not a physical robot, a human dating service or a guaranteed emotional relationship.

Nomi: recurring conversations with an editable background

4.3/5
  • Price / monthCA$12.99/mo
  • Free tier50 msg/day
  • NSFWyes
  • Age checkself declaration
  • PlatformsWeb, iOS

Nomi gives an ongoing fictional relationship several places to store its background. Backstories, shared notes and Mind Maps sit alongside conversational memory. If you want a character to keep a consistent personality across many conversations, those distinctions help. They describe the tools on offer, though, and do not prove that every detail will be recalled correctly. A good start is a small invented background and a few preferences you would be comfortable storing with an online service.

The free allowance is 50 messages a day, with a 400-character input limit. Paid messages allow 800 characters. That makes the free account a more generous introduction than a handful of lifetime messages, although a long exchange will still hit the ceiling. Standard includes up to 10 companions and 10 group chats. Voice calls require a subscription, and after a downgrade the voice features become read-only. So extra characters are only part of the reason to pay.

Nomi's published US-dollar prices are US$15.99 monthly and US$99.99 annually. The Canadian App Store lists Standard Plan Yearly at CA$129.99 and Standard Plan Quarterly at CA$49.99 for the three-month term. Its generic Standard Plan entry of CA$19.99 does not show an interval. Do not blend these entries into a single Canadian monthly price. Check provincial tax and the final renewal amount on the purchase confirmation.

Optional credits add another spending decision. The Canadian store lists 40 credits for CA$6.99, and an additional companion slot costs 100 credits. You need a subscription to buy credits, and they do not expire. For an ordinary chat routine, find out what the subscription already includes before buying extras. To cancel, go to Profile, Subscription and Manage Subscription; paid access continues to the end of the term. Nomi states plainly that its chats are not end-to-end encrypted, and its policy says personal information is deleted in about 28 days, with exceptions. The Nomi review treats those account controls separately from its memory features.

What we like

  • A published daily free allowance makes a short chat routine easy to budget.
  • Background notes and group chats give you different ways to structure a fictional conversation.

What could be better

  • Voice access depends on a paid subscription.
  • Stored conversations are not protected by end-to-end encryption.

Replika: a persistent avatar with distinct subscription tiers

3.5/5
  • NSFWlimited
  • PlatformsWeb, iOS

Replika builds the experience around one continuing avatar instead of having you pick a new community character for each conversation. Free access includes chat and avatar customization. Pro adds relationship-status options, activities, voice messages and calls, among other paid features. In an AI girlfriend app, a relationship label, a voice feature and the quality of the conversation are three separate things. Paying for the label does not mean the dialogue will feel more natural to you.

Ultra builds on Pro with features described as improved conversation, self-reflection and saving messages to memory. The Canadian App Store lists an Annual ULTRA purchase at CA$114.99. The same listing shows several annual prices and monthly labels with inconsistent capitalization, so the cheapest number there is not a reliable quote for any particular current plan. Pick the named tier and read its renewal screen before you budget around it. Replika says it does not offer a free trial of its paid plans.

Look at the memory controls before the avatar becomes part of your daily routine. You can remove individual saved memories, but deleting the whole conversation history means deleting the account. If you want to clear yesterday's exchange and keep an established profile, know that in advance. The privacy policy allows profile, message and preference data to be kept for up to 60 days after the contract ends. Some financial and device records have longer legal retention periods.

You cancel through the channel you paid with, which means the relevant app store for store purchases. Deleting the Replika account does not stop billing on its own. If you leave, cancel the recurring payment and delete the account as two separate steps, and keep the cancellation confirmation. Replika is worth comparing if a stable avatar and voice conversation are your priorities, but check whether the specific tier includes the features you want. Treat it as optional entertainment, with room left for ordinary offline relationships and activities.

What we like

  • Free chat lets you try the avatar format before choosing a paid tier.
  • You can remove saved memories one at a time.

What could be better

  • Deleting the whole history requires removing the account.
  • Store prices have to be matched to a named tier and billing interval.

Candy AI: a short free introduction and separate token spending

3.3/5
  • Price / month$13.99/mo
  • NSFWyes
  • Age checkself declaration
  • PlatformsWeb

Candy AI's free introduction is tightly limited. Its help centre lists 5 chat messages across characters, 1 created character and 1 generated image. These are one-time allowances with no daily reset. Reading five messages as a daily quota would make the free tier look much bigger than what is published. The introduction is enough to see the interface and character setup, but it tells you little about how an ongoing fictional conversation develops.

Paid access combines a subscription with tokens. Standard includes 100 tokens per month. Premium Plus includes 330, plus 20 memory slots and 5 chat clones. A memory-slot count tells you how many entries a plan holds, not how faithfully the character will use them. The Plus features may matter if you manage several story variations. If you only want text conversation, first find out which features actually spend tokens. The subscription label alone does not explain the total cost of every action.

The public subscription page shows a first-month amount of $9.99 that renews at $13.99. The annual option shows $47.88 billed for the year, or $3.99 as a monthly equivalent. The dollar symbol on the page does not say whether these are Canadian or US dollars, so treat the amounts as displayed offer figures, not a CAD quote. The annual headline is also a different payment commitment from a monthly subscription. Confirm the currency, the full charge and the renewal amount together before you rely on the price.

Candy's charges appear on statements as EverAI. To cancel, go to My Profile, Settings, Unsubscribe and follow the confirmation prompts; access lasts until the paid period ends. Account deletion is a separate control in the Danger Zone. The privacy policy permits AI training and possible human review of de-identified interactions, and it generally keeps account data for up to 3 years after your last activity. A private character does not mean private processing, so be careful with personal details. The Candy AI review covers the subscription and account controls in more detail.

What we like

  • The free introduction and monthly token grants come with published quantities.
  • Help pages describe separate routes for cancellation and account deletion.

What could be better

  • The introductory monthly amount rises at renewal.
  • Displayed dollar prices do not tell you the Canadian checkout total.
Introductory monthly charge rises at renewal; additional tokens are bought separately.Full review

Secrets AI: daily chat limits and a separate Moments balance

4.0/5
  • Price / monthUS$19.99/mo
  • Free tier20 msg/day
  • NSFWyes
  • Age checkself declaration
  • PlatformsWeb

Secrets AI keeps sent chat messages separate from a currency called Moments. The free plan allows 20 sent messages a day, resetting 24 hours after the first message. Conversations with custom characters have their own limit of 100 messages in total. This is easy to miss: a daily allowance on one part of the service does not mean every conversation renews on the same schedule. Decide whether you want to chat with an existing fictional character or build your own before you judge the free offer.

Memory works per companion, storing information for later conversations. Characters can be set to private, shared or public. Think before sharing: once another person has chatted with a shared character, the service says it cannot be unshared. For a personal fictional story, keeping the character private stops its setup from becoming part of someone else's experience. When you create a character, use an invented adult identity and details that do not identify you or anyone else.

Premium includes 8,000 Moments a month and Ultimate includes 15,000. Subscription grants reset monthly, while purchased top-ups do not expire. Voice calls cost 50 Moments per minute, and text-to-speech is charged by text length. With these units, a routine that mixes chat and voice works differently from an unlimited bundle. Compare the Moments budget with the activities you expect to use.

The published regular Premium annual price is US$109.99 for the year, advertised as US$9.17 per month. That monthly figure is not what you are charged each month, and a promotional first term does not tell you the next renewal price. Charges appear on statements as S LABS INC. To cancel, go to Settings and Manage Subscription and confirm; the account returns to free access after the paid period and keeps your chats. Judge Secrets by the exact activities you plan to use, paying attention to how daily messages, monthly Moments and extra purchases differ.

What we like

  • Daily messages and monthly Moments are described as separate allowances.
  • Cancelling ends paid access at the end of the period and keeps your chats.

What could be better

  • Free messages with custom characters have a total limit instead of the daily general allowance.
  • Sharing a character can become irreversible once someone else chats with it.

GirlfriendGPT: a character catalogue with plan-specific message budgets

3.2/5
  • Price / monthFree tier
  • NSFWyes
  • Age checkself declaration
  • PlatformsWeb

GirlfriendGPT is run by NextDay AI, and its canonical service address is gptgirlfriend.online. The product centres on character conversations and also advertises voice messages and media features. Voice messages are not live calls: a recorded reply is a different interaction from an ongoing spoken exchange. If you mainly want an AI girlfriend chatbot for conversation, look at the message allowance before the size of the catalogue.

Its description of free access gives an illustrative total of 10 to 20 messages across 2 to 3 characters. That is a one-time introduction shared across the account, not a confirmed daily refill. Paid plans describe 5,000 to 20,000 messages per month, and unused messages do not roll over. Compare the named plan's allowance with the kind of conversations you actually enjoy instead of picking the largest number by default.

The service offers a progressive web app and an official Android APK. An APK is an installation format. It does not mean the subscription is free or that an equivalent listing exists in a native app store. If installation is your main concern, make sure you have the official publisher and update route and not a similarly named app. The amount that matters is the currency and renewal total shown for your chosen plan and payment method, with any provincial tax shown before purchase.

Cancellation works through two separate paths: the account's Manage Subscription section and CCBill billing. Paid access normally lasts until the end of the current term. Refunds are generally limited to qualifying billing mistakes or technical problems, so do not treat a paid month as a refundable experiment. The privacy policy describes a usual retention period of 6 years after account closure, and deletion requests go through support. That matters if you plan to discuss sensitive topics. Use a fictional adult character, keep identifying details out of its background, and choose this format only if the catalogue and message budget suit what you want.

What we like

  • The published paid message range shows the monthly quota clearly.
  • The service names its web-app and Android installation formats.

What could be better

  • Unused paid messages do not carry over to the next month.
  • Closing an account does not mean all retained records are removed right away.

Kupid AI: weekly feature quotas need a matching billing period

3.0/5
  • NSFWlimited
  • PlatformsWeb

Kupid AI is a fictional-character service with separate Pro and Ultra allowances. Its comparison gives Pro 25 photos, 8 videos and 12 voice minutes per week, and Ultra 75, 25 and 35 respectively. If conversation is why you are buying, the voice allowance is the figure that matters most. Voice messages do not mean live calling is available. Decide whether listening to replies adds anything to your routine before paying for a larger multimedia allowance.

The public comparison also lists 4 custom characters for Pro and 8 for Ultra. One memory reference mentions the last 100 messages but does not clearly tie that figure to a tier. So neither plan can honestly be said to remember an entire relationship indefinitely. Keep any important invented background short and save your own copy instead of counting on a memory guarantee that is never stated.

Prices appear in euros as a weekly equivalent: €3.44 for Pro and €5.75 for Ultra in the offer we saw. That display does not show the actual charge period or the upfront total. A good purchase screen tells you the amount collected, the currency, when it renews and what the allowance includes, and a weekly promotional headline cannot cover all of that. The free introduction is described as a few messages, with no reliable recurring number.

Coins split granted value from purchased value. Subscription, free and promotional grants expire after 6 months, while purchased packs do not expire. That can matter even if you only use the service now and then. Kupid's privacy policy normally keeps personal data for 6 years after closure, and its terms send cancellation requests to support. Before committing to a recurring charge, find out how to cancel the specific offer you chose. Kupid's case rests on its visible character and voice quotas; the unclear billing interval makes it much harder to compare its price with a plan clearly labelled monthly.

What we like

  • Pro and Ultra publish separate weekly voice and character allowances.
  • Purchased coin packs and promotional grants follow different expiry rules.

What could be better

  • Weekly price equivalents do not show the actual charge interval.
  • The memory figure is not clearly tied to a specific subscription tier.
Public euro display: Pro €3.44/week and Ultra €5.75/week; confirm the full billing term.

Character.AI: a broad conversation platform with a continuity risk

4.1/5
  • Price / monthUS$9.99/mo
  • NSFWno
  • Age checkthird party
  • PlatformsWeb, iOS, Android

Character.AI offers custom and community characters, live voice calls and unlimited free messages, though you may land in a waiting room at busy times. You can build a fictional adult persona for ordinary conversation, but the platform's rules still apply whatever relationship label you use. Paying does not remove those rules or skip age checks. Think of it as a general character-chat service, and do not assume every product in this comparison has the same boundaries.

The published c.ai+ prices are US$9.99 monthly and US$94.99 annually. A Lite subscription costs US$4.99 monthly, with a limited daily premium allowance, after which you get standard models. The published allowance does not give a reliable number for that daily premium quota. Memory pins are clearer: free accounts get 15 and Lite gets 30, while full c.ai+ adds private Lorebooks. These tools let you keep selected background information, but they do not guarantee that every response will stay consistent.

A major business development affects any long commitment. On October 12, 2026, Character.AI announced a voluntary Chapter 11 process and a proposed court-supervised sale. The announcement says the service and subscription billing continue, and also says the platform will wind down if a viable sale does not happen. Having access today does not remove that uncertainty. If you plan a long personal story or a lengthy prepaid term, be more cautious than the unchanged subscription screen suggests.

The company says export and account deletion stay available during the proceeding. On the web, deletion is under Profile Settings, Account and Manage Account & Data; on mobile, use Remove Account. Age assurance can involve Persona, and the published FAQ says biometric data is deleted within 7 days. That rule covers the age check, not your chats. Keep a copy of any fictional material you care about and check the company's status before each renewal. Here, continuity and control over your history matter as much as the free message allowance.

What we like

  • Free messages and live calls cover ordinary character conversation.
  • Memory pins and paid Lorebooks give you named tools for background.

What could be better

  • The announced sale process makes the future of the service uncertain.
  • Subscriptions keep billing during the proceeding.
c.ai+ US$9.99/month or US$94.99/year; Lite US$4.99/month.Full review

Match the plan to your actual use

For daily written conversation, start with the reset rules. Nomi's 50 messages renew every day; Candy's 5-message introduction has no stated daily renewal. Secrets keeps its 20-message daily allowance apart from a 100-message total for custom characters. These details say more about ongoing free use than the word free on a landing page. The free-app comparison looks at allowances and their limits.

For a character with a continuing backstory, look at the editing tools and what deletion does. Nomi has shared notes and Mind Maps, Character.AI has pins and paid Lorebooks, and Replika lets you remove saved memories one at a time. You can use these tools for a fictional background without adding your real address, employer or relationship history. A short invented background is enough to set up a character without building a detailed record of your own life.

For spoken interaction, tell calls apart from voice messages, and minutes apart from tokens. Nomi and Replika publish call features, while Secrets charges 50 Moments per call minute. Kupid's weekly voice allowance uses yet another charging structure. A plan that looks cheap for text can cost quite differently once voice is your main activity.

For a Canadian budget, read the currency code and the total charge together. Nomi's CA$129.99 yearly App Store entry is a local storefront price; its US$99.99 annual offer on the web comes from a different context. Check provincial GST/HST, payment support and renewal terms for your own purchase. A global website does not guarantee every local payment method. The Canada guide covers these points.

How we score

Scores are computed from each app's published terms, pricing, policies and store listings on the dates shown. We have not yet run paid test accounts; when we do, experience criteria will be added and the cap on the total score removed. Affiliate links never change a score. Full methodology

Keep the fictional relationship separate from personal records

Use fictional adult characters and keep your account details out of the character's story. Private visibility is not private processing: Nomi states that chats are not end-to-end encrypted, and Candy's policy permits training and possible human review of de-identified interactions. Do not treat a closed character page as a confidential diary.

Retention varies a lot. Nomi describes removing account data in about 28 days, with exceptions. Candy generally keeps account data for up to 3 years after your last activity. GirlfriendGPT and Kupid normally describe 6 years after closure. These are policy terms, not promises that every record disappears when you close a chat window. Saved financial or legal records can follow different rules from conversation content.

Plan how you will leave while the account is still easy to navigate. In Replika, removing a saved memory, deleting the account and cancelling the subscription are three separate controls. In Secrets, cancelling leaves your chats in place after the paid term. Save the billing confirmation and check the renewal status; uninstalling the app is not proof that payments have stopped.

An agreeable reply is generated text. It does not mean the character understands your situation or can make decisions for you. Set limits on time and spending that fit your life, and stay in touch with people and activities outside the app. If a feature keeps you there longer than you meant to stay, change the routine instead of buying a bigger allowance.

A practical starting point

Settle on a conversation routine you can manage before committing to a long plan. Nomi's 50 daily messages give you a defined free allowance to start with. Replika fits if a stable avatar is what you are comparing. The other products use different message, voice or token budgets. Read the account controls alongside the price, especially where removing history and cancelling the subscription are separate steps.

For a Canadian purchase, ask for a clear currency and billing period. A CA$129.99 annual storefront item, a US-dollar promotion and an unspecified dollar symbol are three different kinds of price information. Character.AI's announced sale process raises its own question about whether the service will continue. Pick the product whose features, budget and exit controls fit how you plan to use it, and ignore headline promises of the most realistic relationship.

Frequently asked questions

Is an AI girlfriend simulator the same as a game?

Some interfaces use avatars and character settings, but the products here are mainly conversation services. Replika includes free avatar customization, and Nomi Standard supports up to 10 companions. A game label does not tell you whether a service has a story ending, daily limits or recurring billing. Check each of those features instead of assuming one download gives you the whole experience.

Which option can I keep using without a subscription?

Nomi publishes an ongoing free allowance of 50 messages a day. Character.AI offers unlimited free messages, though you may have to wait at busy times. Candy lists 5 free messages across characters, with no daily reset mentioned. What matters is whether access recurs or is a one-time introduction. Free access may still need an account and is still subject to the service rules.

Does a free APK include premium features?

An APK is how an Android app is installed. It says nothing about subscription entitlements. GirlfriendGPT offers an official Android APK and still separates an illustrative 10 to 20 free messages from its paid monthly message plans. A file labelled free does not guarantee unlimited chat, a safe publisher or a valid premium licence. Check the installation source and the subscription access separately.

Is Replika suitable for an ongoing fictional relationship?

Replika gives you a continuing avatar, with relationship-status options in Pro and extra memory tools in Ultra. The Canadian App Store lists Annual ULTRA at CA$114.99. Whether you like its conversational style is personal, and the tier description cannot answer that. Look closely at the history controls, because removing the whole conversation history means deleting the account.

Can a monthly equivalent hide an annual payment?

Yes. Secrets advertises its regular Premium annual price as US$9.17 per month but collects US$109.99 for the year. Candy shows $3.99 per month for a $47.88 annual charge, and that page does not specify the currency. Read the full-term amount and renewal conditions before comparing either figure with a plan billed monthly.

Why do Canadian App Store prices differ from web prices?

They are separate purchase channels, each with its own listed products and billing terms. Nomi lists Standard Yearly at CA$129.99 in the Canadian App Store and advertises a US$99.99 annual price elsewhere. That does not mean one is an exchange-rate conversion of the other or that tax is treated the same way. Use the price and entitlement for the channel you will actually subscribe through.

Can an AI girlfriend remember everything I say?

None of the feature lists here promise perfect recall. Character.AI publishes 15 free memory pins and 30 for Lite, while Kupid mentions the last 100 messages without saying which tier that applies to. Nomi offers background notes and Mind Maps. Each tool handles context in its own way, and a generated conversation is not a reliable permanent record. Keep important fictional notes outside the app as well.

How useful are Reddit discussions when choosing an app?

They can point you to questions worth checking, especially about surprise renewals or changed features, but a post may describe an older plan or another country. Specific quantities are easier to verify: Candy, for example, currently lists 100 monthly Standard tokens and 330 for Plus. Check a discussion's date, plan and platform before applying it to your own purchase.
