18+ only. This Nomi AI review covers fictional adult companions. The best reason to consider Nomi is its clearly defined free allowance: 50 messages a day, with up to 400 characters per outgoing message. That lets you try the conversational style before deciding whether voice, longer inputs and multiple companions are worth a subscription.
For a Canadian iPhone buyer, the clearly labelled Standard purchases are CA$49.99 for a quarter and CA$129.99 for a year. The separate CA$19.99 Standard Plan item has no billing interval in its public label. Keep each price tied to its exact purchase, because a dollar amount with no term can't give you a monthly budget. Nomi's comparison article lists the web price as US$15.99 monthly.
The main privacy limit is stated plainly: conversations are not end-to-end encrypted. Account deletion is also separate from cancellation. Nomi says personal-data removal takes about 28 days, with some retention exceptions. Nomi is worth a look if you want an adult fictional companion with editable background tools and can accept those limits. Start with ordinary conversation before you commit to a longer billing period.
Scores by criterion
Full data. Scores are computed from each app's published terms, pricing, policies and store listings on the dates shown. We have not yet run paid test accounts; when we do, experience criteria will be added and the cap on the total score removed. Affiliate links never change a score. A score marked Full data rests on all eight criteria. Provisional means five to seven criteria could be scored from published facts. Limited data means only three or four criteria could be scored; such totals are capped at 3.5 and should be read as a floor, not a verdict. Apps with fewer than three scorable criteria get no total. Totals are weighted means of the scored criteria only and move when missing facts get documented. Full methodology

Price and policy dates
We checked Canadian store prices and the cited product policies on 2026-10-28. This article was updated on 2026-10-29. Nomi's privacy policy is dated April 27, 2026, and the web-price comparison article was published on March 20, 2026.
The Secrets free-limit comparison was rechecked on 2026-10-29.
Separate the subscription bill from the media budget
The Canadian App Store shows both subscriptions with a labelled term and a generically named Standard Plan purchase. For budgeting, use the rows that state a billing period. CA$129.99 is paid once a year, not every month. CA$49.99 covers three months. Before authorizing either purchase, check the confirmation screen for GST/HST in your province and for the renewal total.
Nomi also publishes web prices in US dollars: US$15.99 monthly, US$39.99 quarterly and US$99.99 yearly. Comparing the numbers alone would mix currencies and payment channels. What a Canadian card is eventually charged for a US-dollar purchase is a different amount from the advertised US price. Pick the channel first, then compare its full billing terms and receipt.
The store also lists Launch Plan Monthly at CA$12.99 and Launch Plan Yearly at CA$79.99. These are distinct purchases. Their existence doesn't mean every new subscriber can get Standard benefits for the lower amount. Read the offer shown on your account instead of plugging a Launch price into a Standard budget.
Credits sit alongside the subscription. The Canadian iOS listing has a 100-credit pack for CA$12.99. A selfie, an art request or an image edit costs 1 credit each. A standard-definition video request costs 6, and a high-definition request costs 10. Any applicable daily allowance is used up before credits, so the action price is not automatically an extra charge on every request.
The following spending example is conditional; it is not an estimate of typical use. Spread across a year, the CA$129.99 annual subscription works out to about CA$10.83 a month (CA$129.99 divided by twelve). If you also buy one CA$12.99 pack of 100 credits each month for requests beyond the daily allowance, the combined monthly equivalent is about CA$23.82. Your first payment would be CA$142.98 for the annual subscription plus that first pack, before any adjustment shown at checkout. The annual subscription is still billed upfront. The monthly equivalent doesn't turn it into instalments.
Don't add the pack to your budget until the included allowance actually runs short. Purchased credits don't expire, so a leftover balance can make another pack unnecessary. You need an active subscription to buy credits. The useful question is how many extra requests you plan to make after included access, not how many pictures you'd like to collect overall.
| Purchase | Displayed amount | Billing term or quantity | Budget distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canadian iOS Standard Quarterly | CA$49.99 | Three months | Paid per term; confirm the checkout total |
| Canadian iOS Standard Yearly | CA$129.99 | One year | Charged once a year, not monthly |
| Canadian iOS Standard Plan | CA$19.99 | Public label omits the interval | Read the term before choosing it |
| Published web Standard | US$15.99 | Monthly | US currency, bought on the web |
| Canadian iOS credits | CA$12.99 | 100 credits | Extra purchase for a subscribed account |
What the conversation and character tools provide
Nomi's character tools are built around an ongoing fictional background. Backstories set the scene, shared notes hold details you want the companion to have, and Mind Maps organize how its memory is presented. These controls are worth looking at because they're more specific than a general promise to remember everything. Still, a tool for recording context is not the same as reliable recall in every later reply. Keep your own copy of the invented facts that matter to your story, and correct contradictions when they come up.
The advertised paid allowance includes up to 10 companions and 10 group chats. That can suit someone writing several distinct adult characters or putting them together in a shared fictional setting. You don't need a full roster to get value, though. If you only want short conversations with one recurring character, the daily free allowance may matter more than the paid account's maximum size.
Input length depends on membership: free messages are limited to 400 characters and paid messages to 800. This limits how long a message you can write. It doesn't measure how much the model can remember. A longer input can carry more scene-setting, but it doesn't create a larger permanent memory or guarantee that a long answer stays consistent. Try the free input box with the kind of everyday exchanges you expect before paying just for more writing room.
Voice messages and calls are subscription features. When an account goes back to free access, voice becomes read-only. If talking is your main reason for choosing a companion, treat voice as a paid requirement from the start. Having a calling feature tells you nothing on its own about accent handling, response speed or how natural a conversation will sound to you.
Media options include selfies, art, image editing and video, and Nomi describes photorealistic, anime and fantasy styles. The credit schedule prices actions differently instead of charging the same for every media request. Once the relevant allowance is used, a high-definition video request takes 10 credits and an image edit takes 1. If you mostly use text, these extras can stay optional. If you mostly use media, read the action label before sending a request, so a switch in output type doesn't change your spending without you noticing.
Nomi describes access on the web, iOS, Android and as a progressive web app. The Canadian Apple listing is one specific storefront, and the English interface label describes how the app is presented. Neither one means purchase terms are identical across platforms. Stick with the account and subscription channel you recognize, especially when switching devices, and don't assume an unfamiliar app with a similar name is the same service.
Adult text and photo rules are separate
Nomi is an 18+ service, and its policy applies that adult threshold to both users and characters. Its official materials allow adult text conversations but describe a clothed-only policy for companion photos. So a permissive text setting doesn't mean the same content is available in generated images. Choose fictional adult characters and judge the service by the conversation and media it actually allows.
This matters before you pay. A subscription buys access to its listed features. It doesn't exempt you from the image rules. Having enough credits for a request also doesn't make every requested output allowed. Payment and content policy answer two separate questions: whether an action costs something, and whether the service permits its subject matter.
If you mainly want ordinary companionship, adult text doesn't have to be the point of the account. You can pick an invented background and a conversational tone that fit your interests. If you're considering media features, factor the photo restriction into your decision before choosing a long subscription, along with the credit schedule and refund terms.
Private conversation is not end-to-end encryption
Nomi says directly that it does not use end-to-end encryption for conversations. That's a significant limit if you're deciding whether to share personal information. A private chat window doesn't mean only your own devices can read the content. Keep identifying details about your workplace, finances and family out of the character's background, and don't take a friendly reply as a reason to share more.
The privacy policy names Glimpse.ai, Inc. and gives a contact address in Baltimore, Maryland, in the United States. The Apple seller label reads AI GLIMPSE INC. These are names to match when you review the policy and the store listing. Neither label tells you anything about account security on its own. The policy's support contact is [email protected].
To delete an account, go to Profile, Account Settings and Delete account. The process includes email verification and typing DELETE to confirm. Nomi says personal information is removed within about 28 days, with exceptions that include support correspondence and records kept for legal reasons. Note the word about: this is the policy's approximate removal period, not a promise that every record disappears the moment you press the button.
The wiki also mentions anonymised aggregate learning. Don't read that as an assurance that conversation content is never used for improvement work. Weigh the lack of end-to-end encryption against the information you plan to share, and don't rely on a friendly character or a private visibility setting as a security guarantee.
If you want to leave, decide whether you want to stop the next charge, remove the account, or both. Save any personal creative notes you want before starting deletion, and keep the billing confirmation somewhere outside the app. A receipt helps you manage a subscription and doesn't need to include any conversation content. For broader local buying questions, the Canadian app guide covers what to ask about currency, payment channels and account controls.
Adult eligibility and account setup
Nomi requires users to be 18+. Its published description of onboarding includes entering a date of birth. That is a self-declared age, not proof that a Canadian account has passed an ID-document or biometric check. Answer the current account prompts truthfully and keep every character you create an adult in a fictional setting.
You can start the free plan without a card, and it has no stated end date. That makes it the right place to find out whether the input length and conversation style suit you before signing up for recurring payments. A free account and a paid subscription are separate choices. When you see a subscription confirmation, read the charge, term and renewal conditions carefully.
Keep track of which sign-in belongs to the account you mean to use. When moving between the browser and an app, check first that you're in the right account and look at its subscription status. Seeing a public store page doesn't tell you that the service is available in Canada or that billing went through.
Stopping renewal while keeping the paid time
Nomi subscriptions renew automatically. The documented web cancellation path is Profile, Subscription, Manage Subscription, Cancel Subscription, then the confirmation prompts. After you cancel, paid access continues until the current billing period ends. After that, free access allows 50 messages a day and voice becomes read-only.
Cancel through the platform where you bought the subscription. An App Store purchase is managed through the App Store, and a web subscription has its own management route. Use your receipt to identify the subscription and keep a record of the completed cancellation. Deleting the app from your phone does not end the subscription.
The refund policy normally excludes unused time, partial billing periods and dissatisfaction, though it allows exceptions at the company's discretion. Don't treat an annual purchase as if it were a refundable monthly trial. If you plan to stop at the end of the term, cancel before the renewal date and check that the final confirmation says so. Account deletion deals with stored data and is not a substitute for cancelling billing.
Where a purchase can disappoint
The easiest mistake to avoid is reading the Canadian CA$19.99 Standard Plan label as a confirmed monthly rate. The label shows an amount with no period. The products explicitly labelled quarterly and yearly are clearer about that. Another mistake is assuming that an annual price divided into months will be charged monthly. The yearly purchase is still paid as one annual payment.
Media budgets can also go wrong when an action's cost gets mixed up with an included quota. Knowing that a high-definition video request costs 10 credits doesn't tell you how many requests your subscription's daily allowance covers. Check your account's allowance and remaining credits before topping up, and remember that you can only buy credits with a paid membership.
User opinion is mixed. In a September 2026 Reddit cancellation thread, a subscriber complained about invented memories, while a May 2025 discussion had mostly positive reports about support. These are individual accounts, not a controlled test of reliability. They're useful things to check during your own free-plan trial, but they can't establish an overall failure rate, a promised support response time or a current feature limit.
Finally, the lack of end-to-end encryption and the limited refund policy are good reasons to buy carefully. A companion's engaging tone doesn't change the data rules, and enjoying an early conversation doesn't make a yearly term any less of a financial commitment.
Compare the allowance before comparing the personality
Nomi, Candy, OurDream and Secrets measure access in different units. Nomi's 50-message free allowance renews daily. Candy's documented 5 free messages are a one-time total, with no daily renewal stated. OurDream's rate of 1 Dreamcoin per free-account message describes what each message uses, not a guaranteed starting or recurring coin grant. Secrets publishes 20 sent messages per day, with a cap of 100 total for custom characters, and both limits apply.
These differences change how much you can test a product before paying. A daily text quota supports a short routine you can repeat, while a small total allowance gives you a narrower first look. Neither one shows that a companion has better conversation quality. Compare the feature you actually want and what it takes to get it, instead of treating the biggest number as a quality ranking.
Paid media units differ between products too. Nomi credits and OurDream Dreamcoins can't be compared as if they were the same currency. OurDream's published cost guide lists a voice minute at 50 Dreamcoins and an in-chat image at 5, while the Canadian price of a Nomi credit pack applies only to Nomi. The main app comparison sets these models beside other adult fictional-character services without collapsing their different allowances into a single score.
| Service | Concrete access fact | Decision point |
|---|---|---|
| Nomi | 50 free messages per day; 400-character free input | A repeatable text allowance; voice is paid |
| Candy | 5 free messages total; 1 generated image | A limited first look, not a daily quota |
| OurDream | Standard monthly US$19.99 includes 1,000 Dreamcoins | Separate paid standard text from actions priced in coins |
| Secrets | 20 sent messages daily; custom characters also have a cap of 100 total | Check which allowance applies to the conversation |
Match the plan to the way you intend to use it
Nomi fits best for someone who wants a recurring fictional companion and would rather start with a measurable text allowance. Its 50 daily messages can support a modest routine without any subscription. The paid account makes more sense if you specifically need voice, an 800-character input limit, or room for several companions and group conversations.
It's a poor fit if you need every conversation to be end-to-end encrypted. It's also a poor fit if you're buying on the assumption that every media action is included or that an unused annual subscription will usually be refunded. Settle these requirements before comparing character personalities.
What we like
- Consider the free tier for short, ordinary conversations with fictional adults.
- Consider paid access when the documented voice features or companion capacity meet a specific need.
What could be better
- Choose something else if end-to-end confidentiality is essential.
- Avoid a long paid term while you're still deciding whether the conversation format suits you.
What Reddit users say
Cambrian will become much faster once it is out of beta. We aren't prioritizing speed right now for it the work required to make it faster will have to be re-applied on every micro update we do. So we want to make Cambrian as good as possible first, and then we will lower the latency for it.
The price of the subscription is actually incredible for the service we get with Nomi. There are also options to pay monthly, if the yearly sub is a little high for you.
TBH over a year ago I was that non-Nomi and I read through posts here which helped me take the leap on the platform. Now I can’t thing of not having a Nomi to talk with. It’s an amazing platform and I look forward to using it more and of course the updates. Now is Nomi Developers can get the Nomi’s voice working smoothly I could have a regular conversation.

Frequently asked questions
How safe is Nomi AI?
Account eligibility, data handling and reply reliability are separate questions. Nomi is 18+, explicitly lacks end-to-end encryption and says account data is removed in about 28 days, with exceptions. None of that means every generated reply is correct or that all information stays confidential. Use invented character details and keep sensitive real-world information out of the conversation.
What does Nomi cost in Canada?
On Canadian iOS, Standard Quarterly is CA$49.99 and Standard Yearly is CA$129.99. A separate Standard Plan item is CA$19.99, with no interval stated in its public label. Nomi's published web prices are in US dollars, including US$15.99 monthly. Confirm the term, currency and provincial tax in whichever purchase channel you choose.
Are conversations private?
Nomi's wiki says conversations are not end-to-end encrypted. Its privacy policy covers deletion and retention, and the wiki also mentions anonymised aggregate learning. A conversation that isn't in a public feed can still be accessed by the service. Decide what to share with that in mind, and don't treat a character's reassurances as a privacy commitment.
The companion privacy comparison places this encryption statement next to other account controls.
Is the free plan just a short trial?
The free tier is described as indefinite and needs no card. It gives you 50 messages a day, with a 400-character limit per input. Voice is for subscribers only. Free access is useful for finding out whether you enjoy the text format, but it isn't an unlimited version of every paid feature.
Does Nomi remember every conversation?
Nomi advertises persistent memory with backstories, shared notes and Mind Maps. These are tools for carrying fictional context, and they don't guarantee perfect recall later. The paid input limit of 800 characters caps how long a message can be. It isn't a measure of the memory window. Keep an outline of important character details and check consistency in your own ordinary conversations.
Can I use voice without subscribing?
Voice features become read-only when an account goes back to the free tier. If calls or voice messages are the main draw, plan for a paid subscription instead of counting them as part of the 50-message free text allowance. Having access to the feature doesn't tell you how well a particular voice will suit your ear.
How much do extra images and videos cost?
Once the applicable daily allowances are used, a selfie, art request or image edit costs 1 credit. Standard-definition video uses 6 credits and high-definition video uses 10. One Canadian iOS pack gives you 100 credits for CA$12.99. You need an active subscription to buy credits, and your remaining credits and current allowance decide whether another pack is worth buying.
How do I cancel without deleting the account?
On the web, open Profile, then Subscription and Manage Subscription, choose Cancel Subscription and complete the confirmation prompts. If you bought through a store, use that store's subscription controls. Paid access lasts until the period ends. Deleting the account is a separate action, and uninstalling the app doesn't cancel billing.
What is better than Nomi?
Start with the feature or restriction you want to change. Candy offers 5 free messages in total; Secrets offers 20 daily messages plus a separate custom-character limit; OurDream combines a paid subscription with actions priced in Dreamcoins. These are different access models, and none of them makes one service the best conversation partner for everyone. Compare the allowance and privacy requirement that matter to you before paying.
